who we are

Team Up For Honduras is a non-profit mission project founded in 2011 under the umbrella of Interlink Ministries. Located in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras, the mission focuses on helping girls from the Hogar de Ninas orphanage start their lives upon completion of high school.

history

In 2008 John and Laurel Leedy travelled to Santa Rosa de Copan Honduras on a mission trip to

help paint the Hogar de Ninas (girl’s orphanage). They had no idea how God would use this

week to change their lives and hearts toward these children and youth. They met Joe Self, a

young man from Missouri who was committed to helping the orphanage. He also continued to

assist the young ladies after graduation to learn to live “outside the walls”. In 2010 Keith and

Flo Ramer along with the John and Laurel made a trip to Santa Rosa with a group to do work at

the orphanage. After discussion with Joe Self, John and Laurel, Keith and Flo, and Joe agreed to

begin a Mission Project for the primary purpose of assisting the young ladies from the

orphanage when they graduate from high school. In 2011 John, Laurel, Keith, Flo, and Joe

agreed to begin Team Up For Honduras as a mission project under the umbrella of Interlink

Ministries. Over the years Team Up has expanded to include other areas of help, but the

graduated girls project continues to be the primary focus.

In 2018 Joe Self decided to pull back from Team Up For Honduras to pursue other

opportunities. At that time Team Up reconfigured their board. John and Laurel Leedy, Keith and

Flo Ramer, and John and Nancy Tyrrell make up the present board of directors.

Board Members

We were both blessed to be raised in Christian homes in rural areas of Ohio. We met at Living Water Church and were married in 1998. Our lives are busy with 5 children, 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

In 2008 we went on a church outreach with Scott & Trish Zacharias to Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras to paint an all girl orphanage and were struck by the love and smiles of the girls. We had no idea how God would use that short week to change our lives and hearts for these precious girls. We met Joe Self, a young man from Missouri, who has made his life mission to help the girls in the Hogar de Ninas and continues to guide them after they graduate from high school to learn to live “outside the walls”. In 2011 after much prayer, we joined Joe Self, and Keith & Flo Ramer to form Team Up For Honduras to serve the graduated girls. We spend two to three months each year in Santa Rosa so we can encourage and continue to strengthen our relationships there. We seek God’s guidance and direction to show His love for the people of Santa Rosa.

We both come from Christian families and have been involved with and supported various missions over the years. We have four children and eight grandchildren. In 2010 we had the opportunity to visit Hogar de Ninas in Santa Rosa, Honduras. We were only there a few days when we realized our hearts were connecting with the girls. We met Joe Self and learned of his ministry helping the girls as they graduate high school and must leave the orphanage. We

teamed up with John and Laurel Leedy and Joe Self to form Team Up for Honduras and help these girls transition from orphanage life to become independent and leaders in their Honduran society. We have traveled to Honduras several times and know many of the girls. Our involvement with Team Up has moved to be a supportive role to John and Laurel as they are “the feet” of our ministry and continue to make a couple trips each year to Honduras. As Joe has moved on to other responsibilities, we gladly welcomed John and Nancy Tyrrell to join our board and help provide leadership. God continues to work in our hearts as we walk with John and Laurel to make the world a better place for these young ladies.
