areas of impact

  • graduated girls

The primary focus of our mission projects continues to be the support of the young ladies as they graduate from high school and leave Hogar de Ninas. Since 2011, forty-three young ladies have entered this project. This year we have 13 young ladies in this project. In December we helped move five new graduates into the house we rent. They are busy finding jobs and beginning to apply for admission into local universities. There are presently 10 girls in the house along with Yury our house mom.

  • marias

Marias are young ladies who come from families from small villages where there is no opportunity for a high school education. They come to the Hogar de Ninas (orphanage) or the Hogar de Ancianos (elderly home) and work in exchange for being able to attend night school to obtain a high school diploma. When they graduate we offer them the opportunity to stay in Santa Rosa and work and further their education. We assist in housing for two years and pay 70% of their educational expenses. This year we are assisting one young lady. Since 2014 we have assisted ten young ladies through this project.

  • community

Roger Milla suffered severe brain damage when hit by a drunk driver eleven years ago. Since the accident Roger, his wife Nancy, and 12 year old daughter Donna live with Nancy’s parents. We provide physical therapy for Roger as well as emotional support to the family. We also give housing, health care and food help to others in the community when needs arise and funds are available.

  • hogar de ninas

Team Up continues to maintain a strong, healthy relationship with the girls orphanage which is run by Franciscan Nuns. We are providing orthodontal care for four young ladies from the Hogar for the next two years and eye glasses for three young ladies. In the past year, building updates and painting projects have been completed to the Hogar. We have also established a sponsorship program for the girls at the Hogar.

  • education

A newer venture for Team Up the last couple of years is to assist other young ladies who are alumni from the Hogar and former Marias who wish to continue their education beyond high school. We enter into an agreement with these young women to pay for 70% of their tuition and fees to continue training either through college or other training programs. Through educational support, nine girls have now graduated from college with two more set to graduate this summer. We presently are assisting nine young ladies.

  • spiritual

We do weekly Sunday dinners with devotionals. Our house mom works with each young lady in their spiritual and values development. Periodically we do a spiritual retreat.

SPONSORSHIP

where our impact started

Team Up For Honduras began with the purpose of assisting young ladies from The Hogar de Ninas (girls orphanage) in Santa Rosa de Copan, Honduras when they graduate from high school. We assist them in transitioning into life independent of the orphanage. This includes providing housing, basic start up needs including a bed, dresser, towels, bedding, and eating and cooking utensils. We also help them find employment and encourage them to continue their education by paying tuition and travel to and from the university in Santa Rosa. We also pay for English and computer classes and take care of medical expenses. The goal is to help them become strong and independent and able to take care of themselves in a very poor and

difficult culture. Nine young ladies who we have assisted with education have now obtained a college diploma.

Team Up is also working with St. Michael’s Parish from Kansas City to help two young ladies from our project who have been accepted into medical school. St. Michael’s will pay for tuition and fees, and Team Up will take care of housing and living costs.
